Stephan Balliel-Zakowicz specializes in patent law. He is primarily involved with the preparation of patent applications and the carrying out of grant, opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office. In addition, he is very experienced in carrying out patent searches and freedom-to-operate analyses. He looks after clients in a wide spectrum of technical fields which extend from the abrasives industry, via food production and laboratory analytics, to medical technology.

After studying physics, in 2005 Stephan Balliel-Zakowicz completed his doctorate in theoretical atomic physics and mathematical physics. After a year of teaching and research at the Federal Technical University (ETH) of Zurich, he decided upon a change of career and commenced his employment at Hepp Wenger Ryffel in 2006. At the same time, he trained in patent law and has been a European and Swiss Patent Attorney since 2010.

Stephan Balliel-Zakowicz is a member of a number of professional associations. He lives in Konstanz on Lake Constance.
